Vasectomy: Ten Years on

Nelson's Column
July 2011. I received an email out of the blue, asking how I feel 10 years after my snip. Since I get very few emails asking about my equipment (note to wife: this is the only email I have ever received asking about my equipment) I thought a small update would be worthwhile.
I think I am in that fortunately group of people, of having no side effects whatsoever, following my vasectomy. Everything seems to function as it did before (I am now 50 years old), so perhaps I am doubly lucky. It is still fun checking!
Very occassionally I am aware of my scrotum, perhaps a very slight ache, but I am sure I had aches before the vasectomy too. It's a bit like when you watch a programme on testicular cancer, and you become aware of every ache, pain and sprain in your scrotum, and you wonder whether you need to check for cancer. Or like going through check-in at an airport, and automatically feel guily.
On the other hand, I know that vasectomy will affect everyone differently. I assume that the vast majority of people are like myself, otherwise they would ban the procedure. I also assume that a small number of people will be affected in some way, but I have no idea what those numbers are, or how they are affected. I am sure that if I had had a bad experience, my web site would be asking for the surgeon general to have their balls chopped off.
